Sports Locker Bedroom Decorating Idea

sports locker bedroom A young relative of mine had an active little boy who, at age two, loved to roll those little plastic beach balls down the stairs and watch them bounce around the living room. He would giggle and go back up the stairs and do it all over again, entertaining himself endlessly.

Being creative, his mother decided to use a variety of sports themes when she redecorated his bedroom from the baby design to a young boy bedroom decorating idea. In this way, she was able to introduce many sports to him with hand-painted drawings on his walls.

The room turned out beautiful and quite imaginative. She found a toddlers race car bed in bright red with black and white numbers just like NASCAR. She hung a net in one corner that held a bunch of toys including play soccer balls and the lighter toy version of baseballs, basketballs, and footballs.

She used her artistic talents to draw scenes of a basketball hoop and player doing a Michael Jordan flying dunk into the net. Another spot was goal posts showing a football flying through complete with motion. (Now that is difficult, so clearly she was quite artistic!) She added more scenes to depict bleachers with fans and brightly colored team banners. Another area had a baseball diamond with a player running between bases. I think she filled every wall with a hand-painted sports scene. It took over a year as she worked on his room on an off for a long time.

Her boy’s dresser became a realistic looking locker with red paint and a few creative black air slats painted on and locker handle hardware. I think it started as a tall cabinet she found in a garage sale, but you can find a Red Storage Locker like the one in the picture above from Home Visions. There are other bright colors and matching desks available too. She turned the toy chest into a bleacher seat with a team cushion, but you can buy toy chests all decorated with sports themes too.

The little boy’s sports locker bedroom decorating idea may have inspired him in young childhood. Today he enjoys playing most of the sports offered in primary school and is the best hitter on his baseball team.

To design a room like this, you would start with a bland background wall color. Use several bright colors in the sporting scenes and sports items you want to display. Shades of green, orange and red are common sports colors, though yellows, purples, and blues are fun too.

You don’t have to be an artist to make this totally unique room for your young boy. Though I like to trace designs and fill them in with paint, it can still be quite time consuming. Instead you can hang a variety of sports posters, art, and bright colored team banners on the wall. You can even hang up things like baseball bats, mitts and caps right on the walls. Or, use shelves and place your favorite sports items on them prominently. Be sure to make at least one shelf tall enough to display his own hard-won sports trophies someday!
