airplane decor for childs roomIf you are thinking about airplane décor for childs room project, there are many fun ideas to make it unique. Whether your boy is just a toddler learning to say “airplane” or he is old enough to want to fly them someday, he can enjoy dreaming or building his airplane models in his airplane decor for childs room you create.

Sky blue walls are a perfect start to this project. You can use any shade that reminds you of the sky. You can use white and blend and swirl gray into clouds shapes to add depth on and near the ceiling if you are handy with the brush. Today you can also find wallpaper or borders to add the clouds with less skill. Don’t be afraid to cut shapes from wallpapers and use only the parts you want. This helps you be creative even if you don’t feel artistic enough to tackle drawing and painting.

Another artistic touch of airplane decor for childs room can be to add the look of a horizon with a sunrise or sunset on one wall. I get inspiration from pictures in magazines, art or photographs. My cousin is the artist though and I ask her for help when I’m trying to work on a painting project this complex.

You can use window treatments to add to the “sky” easily by using pull down shades in coordinating sky colors, with clouds you can paint or glue on from wallpaper cutouts. Sky blue curtains or drapes can give the same effect whether or not you add clouds. You can even glue or sew on small airplane appliqué’s. If you can’t find any, you can cut them out yourself from material from the fabric store you find with airplanes on it. Maybe you will find some material with airplanes from sheets, shirts or pajamas. Be sure to seal the edges with a whip stitch or glue to keep them from raveling.

Look for just the right sized airplane models or toys to mount on the walls or hang on wires from the ceiling.

The little airplane toys the size of Matchbox cars work great in a mobile. You can even make your own construction paper airplanes for mobiles - a fun project for father and son. Ask them to use the bright colors that compliment your decorating ideas.

An excellent final touch might include hanging posters of the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds - especially for older boys.

When you shop for bedding, you might find an airplane theme on sheets and bedspreads. You can also sew an airplane design on yourself. Remember that cutting an airplane design from another piece of material and sewing it on is the simplest way to add your own unique design to anything. Don’t forget the extra pillows to add color and design to complete the airplane décor for childs room.

In an Extreme Home Makeover show, Ty and his design team mounted part of a real airplane complete with cockpit in a boys bedroom. Now that is extreme, but surely fun.

My boys are grown now, but I used the airplane decor for childs room from the time my first son was a baby. I was inspired by a crib mobile that had little wood toy airplanes that seemed to fly in circles when wound up. The walls in that room were painted a light turquoise. I added posters with airplanes and clouds and used toy airplanes and picture books to complete the airplane decor for childs room.

Years later my boys had bright red, white, and blue striped sheets and blue corduroy bedspreads. I continued their airplane décor for childs room theme for years with realistic model airplanes and posters of airplanes in the sky. When they began to make model airplanes, I hung some on wire from the ceiling. Be sure to hang them high enough so they don’t swing around and crash though. Young boys may want to be destructive by crashing them too. I still remember being sad when my boys crashed two we had hung in a corner. But, boys will be boys….
